VR Sverige selects Plugit to deliver charging infrastructure for nearly 200 electric buses in the Stockholm region
The contract covers charging infrastructure near 200 electric buses across three depots, with the largest sites located in Södertälje and Kallhäll. The total installed power of the system approaches 10 MW. Plugit is responsible for construction and equipment delivery, and will also operate and maintain the charging systems on a long-term basis.
Construction begins immediately and will be completed during 2026, with the new locations reaching full operation in summer 2027. Following completion, Plugit will be responsible for VR Sverige’s charging systems for more than 320 EVs across six locations, a significant step in our Nordic expansion within heavy-duty EV charging.
“I am extremely pleased that VR chose us as their partner to build and maintain these new depots. A decision like this is built on trust. Trust in our people, our processes, our partners and our ability to deliver at scale. The expertise we have developed over 14 years, combined with our 100% focus on e-mobility, means we understand what fleet operators actually need. Not just on day one, but throughout the entire lifecycle” says Tuomas Mäkelä, Head of Business Unit – Fleets at Plugit.
“VR has had a highly positive experience in our collaboration with PlugIt. They are responsive to changing requirements and consistently demonstrate a strong commitment to delivering according to agreed timelines. We receive excellent support throughout the entire process, both during the preparatory and construction phases and following the commissioning of the facilities.” says Lars-Åke Wågström, Technical Manager at VR

The construction will be completed during 2026, with the new locations reaching full operation in summer 2027.
Success in a project is never down to one party alone. It requires strong partners and long-term collaboration behind the scenes. In this project we are working together with Westman Power Ab and Kempower.
