Finnish company Plugit is acquiring Helen’s charging business and will become the largest charging operator in the Helsinki metropolitan area
The company aims to strengthen the position of the domestic firm Plugit in the rapidly growing Finnish charging market.
HELSINKI (8 July 2026) – Plugit, a Finnish electric mobility service provider, has acquired Helen’s charging business. Under the terms of the deal, Plugit will take over Helen’s charging network, which comprises 199 public charging stations and 798 charging points, serving over 55,000 users. As a result of the acquisition, Plugit will become the largest charging operator in the Helsinki metropolitan area in terms of the number of public charging points. The deal supports the company’s growth strategy in Uusimaa, where almost half of Finland’s fully electric cars are registered. Furthermore, according to Value Clinic’s corporate fleet tool, over 55 per cent of Finland’s electric company car fleet is registered in the Helsinki metropolitan area.
The growth in the number of electric cars is driving up demand for charging services, particularly in the capital region. For the electrification of transport to progress, charging must be readily available where people and goods are on the move. The acquisition strengthens the charging network in the market where demand is growing fastest.
“This acquisition represents a significant strategic step for us. Helen’s charging business complements our network perfectly and strengthens our position in the Helsinki metropolitan area, where demand for charging services is growing rapidly. As a result of the acquisition, we will be able to offer both existing and new customers an even more comprehensive charging network and a broader range of services than before,” says Johan Mild, CEO of Plugit.
Following the acquisition, Helen’s charging customers will become Plugit customers and will gain access to the company’s more extensive charging network and charging services via a single app. Plugit serves both consumers and businesses and is also developing charging solutions to meet the needs of the heavy goods vehicle and transport sectors.
“This arrangement reinforces Helen’s focus on the retail supply of electricity to consumer and business customers. “We are pleased that the electric vehicle charging business is being transferred to an owner who is well-placed to develop the service over the long term whilst listening to customers’ needs,” says Tuukka Toivonen, Helen’s Director of Strategy and Corporate Restructuring.
Plugit is continuing to invest in public and private charging solutions with the aim of expanding and strengthening its charging network as the number of electric cars grows. The company’s aim is to facilitate a smooth transition to low-emission transport by providing reliable charging solutions for consumers, businesses and commercial transport.
